At trivago we aim to enable our large user base to find the ideal accommodation for their travels and help advertisers (online travel agencies, hotel chains and hoteliers) to improve their performance on our website.
We’re looking for a Data Science Team Lead to coordinate high impact topics that shape the interaction of users and advertisers on our platform, including the further refinement of our hotel ranking algorithm, the data-driven methodology to quantify the user experience of advertiser landing pages, and the development of approaches to discover and expose the best deals to our users.

What you’ll do:
- Lead a team of data scientists and support them in their professional development by coaching them in best practices and giving guidance for the algorithm development in close cooperation with engineers and stakeholders.
- Establish a vision for the team, and cooperate with Product Owners on Roadmaps to realize that vision.
- Create better algorithms, independently, and with your team. Work on improving the tech stack to help maintain a data infrastructure that is robust and scales well.
- Training, education and knowledge sharing in the area of Data Science.

What you’ll definitely need:
- 3+ years of experience in Data Science or Machine Learning. Previous leadership experience is a plus.
- A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field.
- Proficiency in programming in either Python, R, or Scala.
- Inspirational communication and motivational leadership skills.
- The ability to set clear and reachable goals, and measure the success of the team.
- An exceptional understanding of data analysis and statistics concepts, as well as experience applying them.
- Experience processing and deriving insight from large amounts of data.
- An excellent understanding of SQL. Experience with big data technologies (Hive, Impala, Spark, etc.) would be a plus.
- Confidence when presenting complex ideas and findings to stakeholders.
- The ability to work well independently and can prioritize effectively in order to maximize efficiency of the team.
- Fluency in English (our company language).
