Role
We currently have a lead engineer position in our data group. You would be responsible for leading technical decisions and tasks related to data products and data systems. Ideally, you can identify architectural or business opportunities and come up with and as a team to implement solutions to solve the problem at hand.
You will be leading a team of 3 other engineers who have currently built out various data infrastructure tools, experimentation platforms which support our core product and business functions. To be successful you could have an interest or experience in any of the following - distributed data processing, software engineering and system design or data modelling concepts or data products.
You could, for example, find yourself working on any of the following
- Defining, Leading and Delivering cross-functional projects related to new personalisation services.
- Automating away data infrastructure related tasks.
- Deep learning powered image similarity services used by thousands of customers every day on our site.
- Machine learning productivity tools used by other engineers to quickly iterate on different ideas.

Responsibilities
- Define technical roadmap for the team.
- Leads the technical decision making for all engineering related tasks in data.
- Lead engineering efforts around developing, supporting and maintaining machine learning and data based products from proof of concept through to production.
- Mentor other team members around the delivery of high quality software
- Work closely with machine learning specialists, product managers and other technical leads
- Hands-on coding! A large porting of your time will be dedicated to contributing to the team’s daily coding work
- You are the proactive technology interface to other development teams and oversee the business as a whole
- You know, track and improve your team’s KPIs
Requirements
- Experience leading multi-person projects
- Experience in growing environments and leading high-value projects independently
- Experience working in production environments.
- Strong experience developing in one or more of our core languages (Python, Java, Kotlin, or similar)
- Experience working with sql and hadoop / big data style ecosystems.
Bonus points
- Knowledge of machine learning or an interest in learning.
- Experience working on data products, machine learning, search, recommender systems or computer vision systems.
- DevOps experience.
- Interested in performing the people management aspect of the job as well (This is optional)
