Max Planck Institutes in Martinsried, Dortmund and Dresden seek to fill

PostDoc Positions: Method Development and
Software Engineering for Data Analysis in cryo-EM
Tomography

Are you a highly skilled research software engineer with a sound scientific background who wants to take on the challenge of pioneering new methodologies in a variety of topics in the field of cryo-EM tomography?
Come and join our team for a unique opportunity to work on a collaborative project across three Max Planck institutes: Martinsried, Dresden and Dortmund. Within the context of cryo-EM tomography, you will work on new machine learning workflows, core image processing modules, parallel processing, and data visualization.
Our goal is to create analysis pipelines that will eventually allow us to gain full structural understanding of cellular systems at molecular level. You will be a part of an international team of scientists and research software engineers who are collaboratively creating methods and software tools that enable the direct analysis and visualization of the atomic relationships and spatial connections between molecules and macromolecular complexes.
Requirements: Successful candidates hold a PhD in physics, biophysics, biochemistry, structural biology, computer science, or a related field. Experience in developing complex research software is required. Proficiency in Python and C++ highly desirable, familiarity using CUDA certainly a plus. Experience in electron microscopy, in particular single particle cryo-EM or cryo-ET is not strictly required, but will be considered as an advantage. Proficiency in spoken and written English is a must.
Payment: We offer full-time employment in a vibrant, international work environment.
Remuneration is paid in accordance with the collective agreement of the public service (TvöD Bund), taking qualifications and professional experience into account. In addition, social benefits correspond to those paid in public service.
Application: The Max-Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.
The MPG is committed to promoting work-life balance and equal opportunities.

Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
Please send your CV, two references and a statement outlining your interests and relevant work experience until March 31, 2020 to Stefan Raunser at raunser-jobsearch@mpi-dortmund.mpg.de.
The positions are available immediately in the Max Planck Institutes of Martinsried, Dresden and Dortmund. All positions are to be filled as soon as possible and are initially limited to two years with the possibility of extensions.
