This is an exciting opportunity to work on a new, innovative product and we are looking for you as a (Senior) Data Engineer (f/m).
This role sits within the Data- and Tech- organisation and directly partners with Product Managers and Data Scientists to help create valuable products for our users. We’re looking for a highly skilled engineer, who is passionate about turning data into valuable product for our customers.
Your Responsibilities:
- Successfully partner with Data Scientists to support building advanced data products based on Big Data technology and implement their models
- Successfully partner with system operators to design data generation and provisioning architectures.
- Design scalable architectures for real-time and batch data processing
- Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data
- Help to build a healthy, sustainable and scalable data infrastructure
- Depending on your seniority level, you will have the opportunity to:
- Leverage data infrastructure and lead best practices sharing across different stakeholders across the company and the whole eBay classifieds group
- Be responsible for Data Management / Engineering on our Hadoop-based data platform, covering the full range of data ingestion management, data architecture and data modeling, data quality and data accessibility as well as data governance
- Guide and coach junior team members
- 3+ years of related work experience, ideally experience with creating a real-time infrastructure for Big-Data-processing
- Proficiency in Scala, experience with large-scale software systems and architectures. Knowledge of Java or Python is a plus.
- Ideally you have practical experience with machine learning algorithms and libraries
- Experience with Big Data technologies (Elastic Search, Spark and Kafka). Knowledge of tools like MapReduce, Storm, Hive, Impala, Pig, and workflow scheduling (e.g. Jenkins, Oozie, Airflow) is a plus.
- Background with NoSQL databases (e.g. Cassandra) as well as SQL databases. Experience with HBase or MongoDB is a plus.
- Desire to quickly learn new technologies and the pragmatism to use the tool that fits a problem best
- Able to work self-driven, but also operate as part of a strong, cohesive team
- Strong communication skills. You also must be fluent in English
