The Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology – Program Area C, Research and Development, is looking to employ a
Software Engineer in the field of Research Data Management (m/f/d)
to work in the Leibniz Joint Lab Data Science & Open Knowledge of the TIB Research and Development department and the L3S Research Center under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sören Auer and Vitalis Wiens.
The position is initially limited to three years with envisioned extension. The regular weekly working time is 39.8 hours (full-time). The position is only suitable for part-time work to a limited extent. The remuneration of the position is based on pay scale group 13 TV-L.
Your challengeYou will work in a team to build a large-scale semantic data management platform for the field of supply chain management in the semiconductor industry. It is a multi-national project funded by the European Union (EU) that involves many big industrial manufacturers aiming at semantifying their data under well-defined ontologies.
Your tasks will focus onYour main duties will be focused on the development of a collaborative ontology development framework. It includes the deployment of frontend and backend services for the orchestration of different tasks related to ontology integration, alignment and harmonization as well as data annotation and management using RDF-related tools.
This involves RDFizing the data, as well as storage, retrieval and maintenance. You are expected to be able to install, run and integrate all the software required to establish a semantically annotated data repository, which implies solid familiarity with virtualization platforms such as Docker, as well as databases such as Virtuoso, GraphDB, MongoDB and others. You also are expected to be able to develop programs using modern programming languages such as Python, Java and JavaScript.
Your qualitiesYour competence area should be squarely rooted in data science, ontology development and software engineering or related fields. You should be able to think creatively, grasp new knowledge quickly, be able to design and develop innovative software systems and be interested in mastering complex challenges.
The following qualifications are mandatory
- Successfully completed university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field of study such as Computer Science, Information Science, Mathematics or a comparable field of study
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Excellent proficiency in modern programming languages (especially Python, Java and JavaScript, i. e. React) and modern software engineering methodologies
- Proven team software development skills
- Solid experiences in developing and deploying scalable web services using Docker, Python (Flask) and Node.js.
Desirable qualifications are
- Proficiency in spoken and written German is a plus.
- Experience in the development of controlled vocabularies and classifications
- Experiences in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Semantic Technologies and Web Engineering
- Familiarity and interest in scientific data and meta-data management
- Knowledge of Research Data Management Tools and Services
- Knowledge of supply chain management processes and related concepts on schema.org
- Experiences in RML and R2RML mapping languages and semantic querying over RML
- Experiences in ontology development, alignment, integration and publishing
- Solid experiences in using RDF and SPARQL for data modelling and querying
- Familiarity with ontologies and their applications, e. g. DataCube, FOAF, DCAT, etc.
- Familiarity with RDF stores such as GraphDB and Virtuoso
