PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The Machine Learning (ML) Incubation unit aims to make all SAP business applications and platforms intelligent. We are a strategic focus area within the SAP Innovation Center Network (ICN). The ICN combines software engineering excellence with thought leadership and entrepreneurial spirit. We pioneer game-changing solutions in close collaboration with customers, research and industry partners as well as with other SAP units.
To successfully enter new markets, we rely on empowered teams with end-to-end responsibility. As an Applied (Senior) Research Scientist, you will work together with globally leading universities in machine learning and deep learning, as well as a team of experts including machine learning and deep learning specialists, software engineers, dev ops experts, designers and business developers.

WORK EXPERIENCE
We are looking for an outstanding researcher with proven track record of excellent research and/or skills in building new machine learning-based software. Ideally, you have just finished your PhD and you are interested in cutting edge research in machine learning applications. As part of the machine learning research team, you will develop solutions for real world in large scale data domains.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Required
- PhD in Computer Science or related field, with a focus on Machine Learning or Computer Vision
- Experience in domains such as Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Optimization
- Contribution to open-source research communities, and/or conferences such as CVPR/NIPS/ICLR/ICML/ACL/SIGKDD, etc.
- Proficiency working with multi-terabyte datasets in distributed Linux/Unix environments
- Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, etc.
- Programming experience in one or more of the following languages: C/C++, Python, Matlab
- Experience with Deep Learning software packages such as Caffe/(Py)Torch/Theano/TensorFlow/MXNet
- Ability to visualize data and present core insights in a clear and compelling way
- Self-organized in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Strong collaboration skills
- Good written and oral communication skills in English
